The Ontario Association for
Family Mediation-Ottawa Chapter is the regional affiliate
of the
official provincial organization and Family
Mediation Canada. We
are the organization which takes up the professional
mission to foster a community where family mediation
is the first choice in resolving family conflict.
Our membership is comprised of mediators
from various professional backgrounds. We are united
as caring professionals assisting individuals through
the divorce and separation experience.
Family mediation is a process of
facilitated negotiation in which a neutral third party
professional assists individuals in the context of a
separation or a divorce develop solutions to the issues
facing them. The object of this process is to reach agreements
in the following areas: parenting plans, child and spousal
support and division of property.
These mediated arrangements are
finalized as enforceable Domestic Contracts at the stage
of recommended independent legal advice. Mediation provides
a proven and viable option to families coping with the
transition in separation and divorce.
